Legislators have expressed support for a proposed law that will require all ocean-going vessels to switch to cleaner fuel (only) while at berth in Hong Kong. Authorities say this could reduce emissions of sulphur dioxide city-wide by 14-percent. The legislation is expected to take effect in 2015. Wu Chi-wai of the Democratic Party said it’s a good step forward, but he hopes similar rules can be implemented quickly throughout the Pearl River Delta region. |
